crouching_sin: ([Cain] reap what you sow)

1. Cain was the firstborn son of Adam and Eve, and became a tiller of the land.
2. Abel was born soon after, and became a herder of sheep, watching over them to ensure no harm came to them.
3. One day, God asked the brothers for a sacrifice. Abel provided his finest sheep from the flock, and Cain provided his finest fruits of the soil.
4. God rejected Cain's offering, taking Abel's instead, for God wanted blood for His sacrifices, but did not tell Cain. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
5. Then God said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast?
6. If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it."
7. Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let’s go out to the field." While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him as a sacrifice to God of his most precious thing.
8. Then God said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" "I don’t know," he replied. "Am I my brother’s keeper?"
9. God said, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.
10. Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.
11. When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth forever."
12. Cain said to God, “My punishment is more than I can bear.
13. Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth forever, and whoever finds me will kill me."
14. But God did not answer, and Cain was left alone.
15. So Cain went out from God’s presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
16. Cain made love to his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch.
17. But when Cain died, his soul was still cursed, and he was reborn again, remembering all that had happened.
18. And so it came to pass that each life brought on more hardships, and he was continually trapped in the cycle of being reborn and remembering each life.
