[Naoya is no longer "insane". That almost sounds like an indirect compliment! Rin perks up a little more at this sudden but wonderful thing that is happening. And what is happening? Social links are being forged and pushed forward to the next level!]
Y'think so? ...Most people wouldn't bother sayin' that. But you're too cool to care about it!
Hm? Well, I have a lot of experience with demons. That, and my programming skills, are why I was tapped to create the Demon Summoning Program in the first place.
You talk like a seasoned, professional hit man! D'ya even know what people use your demon apps for?
[And if Naoya shaved his head, it would be a perfect transformation. Even with his programmed demon apps. Or websites. Or whatever computer people did.]
I do, actually. As long as they survive the initial demon attack, then most people used them to defend themselves from the demons invading Tokyo. Some used them against other people, but statistically most of them didn't.
[Demon attack on Tokyo... Normal people defending themselves... Technology.]
So you're ... it's like you're givin' 'em a way to protect themselves but they don't know about demons so in the end they don't know how to handle 'em.
It's not as if I left them defenseless. The first demon that appears from their COMPs is almost always a fairly weak one, and the Harmonizer inside of it puts them on the same physical level. It's not like it's hard to punch a Pixie or something like that into submission.
[...That's still exposing people to things they'd rather not see, especially since demons aren't always benign. -- Is what Rin would say but he doesn't know the word "benign" so...]
But now they're open for any kind of demon attack. It's not like some little kid would be able to defend himself. Not all of 'em know how to throw a punch.
No, that's true. But demons were going to be invading anyway, and I think that more people having a chance of surviving is better than no people having a chance of surviving, don't you?
[THEY COULD OF HAD SOMETHING SPECIAL... But okay. Gotta think this through. This was back in his world. Nothing Rin could do to change it now.
THAT DOESN'T MEAN HE WILL BE QUIET ABOUT IT.]
That's not up to you to decide! -- Sure, there'll be people tryin' to help out. But if demons are invading then there's gonna be less people survivin' and more of 'em freakin' out!
... I think you've got things backwards. As I said, there was going to be a lockdown anyway as the demons came to fight in the human world, whether or not I made the summoning program. That would have caused even more casualties if they couldn't fight back.
Yes, some people may have died as a result of the summoning program - but again, more people were saved because they could fight. The people who hired me knew the war was coming - so they needed a way to fight. It's not as if everyone knows summoning rituals.
If I knew how to help people and did nothing, wouldn't that make me even more guilty?
... He's alive. Changed, but alive. And it seems that he made different choices in different places... as Atsuro seems to remember a different sequence of events.
[Wow... this guy was a lot more complex than he originally thought. It made him a little more cool than before. And he had obviously gone through some kind of struggle. Huh. Rin's not going to pry into that unless Naoya felt like saying much about it.]
You sure taught him well. He's one the best [AND ONLY ONE OF THREE] programmers I know!

Okay? Why'd you make a demon summoning thing in the first place if - ... Your place never even had demons!

[Contracts are contracts, Rin.]

You're not a hit man, are you?!

I'm a programmer.
[At least this time around.]

[He can understand it now, and he can see that there wasn't much Naoya could have done. And it's not like he can call the guy out on a bluff.]
...Sorry. Still, that musta sucked, bein' in a war like that.
